The port recorded a peak of 29,700 vehicle crossings in a single day. Two-way traffic has remained consistently high since the bridge opened to traffic. In the first seven-plus months of this year, the port handled 4.25 million inbound and outbound vehicles, an 8.4-fold increase from the same period in 2019. Of these, vehicles with license plates from Hong Kong and Macao alone accounted for 2.48 million crossings, or nearly 60% of the total. Since the implementation of the northbound travel policies for Hong Kong and Macao vehicles in 2023, cross-border travel between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao has continued to gain momentum. The recent expansion of the Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles policy has further boosted connectivity across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Since July 25, private cars from five Guangdong cities — Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou and Zhaoqing — have been allowed to drive directly to Hong Kong's urban areas via the bridge port. This means residents of all nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area can now drive south to Hong Kong for work, business or sightseeing, enhancing the "one-hour living circle" concept. Gongbei Customs has supervised over 21,000 southbound trips by Guangdong vehicles since the policy took effect, according to Lin Jin, head of Section II of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Customs under Gongbei Customs.
